Food Service Assistant/Cook
Job Description

General Description
The Food Service Assistant Cook, employed at TCS is ultimately responsible for maintaining the food service in all of its various aspects, including meal preparation, hygiene, food distribution to classes, and sanitation for students, staff and sometimes parents. They will work under general supervision while ensuring compliance with all existing public-health regulations. Assisting with maintaining all food-related purchasing and inventory records are required. The Food Service Assistant is full-time, five days a week, 6:00am - 3:00pm.
Qualifications
Persons applying for the position of Food Service Assistant must be at least 18 years of age and in possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Applicants should have at least one year of experience in meal planning and preparation, knowledge of childhood nutrition, and experience working with groups of children. Candidates will be required to undergo criminal background checks, as well as pre-employment and random drug screens. Full time employees must be CPR & First Aid & Food Handler certified for employment.
Abilities
The Food Service Assistant must be able to work in a cooperative manner with other staff members, students, parents and Health Department personnel. They should be in possession of basic mathematical skills and must be able to accomplish accurate recordkeeping. Further, cooks must be able to work safely around stoves and chemicals while having the physical endurance to spend many hours standing, walking and lifting heavy objects. Confidentiality is a key component of this position. The Food Service Assistant will be aware of happenings within the food service and will need to keep information confidential.
Primary Responsibilities
The daily activities involve both menu development and the preparation of nutritious meals for all students, staff and guests. Responsibilities also include plating and serving food.
These individuals are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness in both the kitchen, cafeteria and storage areas. Some items, such as ovens, pantries and refrigerators, freezers need to be sanitized at regularly scheduled intervals. Weekly activities involve preparing shopping lists and ensuring ordering in a timely manner. Dishwashing, storing supplies, ordering supplies, stocking supplies and pantry inventory are required tasks.
Working Conditions
The Food Service Assistant prepares recipes, slices vegetables and fruit. School cafeterias are often noisy places where workers must tolerate the roar of machinery and equipment and will be exposed to the sounds of student groups.
Dress Code
A proper dress code promotes both food safety and brand recognition, crucial for public image and compliance with health regulations. Clean clothes and protective gear are required for food employees to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.
Clothing Standards
Uniforms: Polo shirts, Chef Jacket or button-up shirts with the school logo and jeans
Hygiene Standards
Cleanliness: Staff must maintain clean and pressed clothing to promote hygiene
Aprons: To protect clothing from spills and stains
Footwear Standards
Closed-toe Shoes: Non-slip, closed-toe shoes are required to ensure safety in the kitchen and cafeteria
Comfort: Shoes should provide adequate support for long hours of standing
Accessories and Grooming Standards
Hair Restraints: Hair nets or hats are required to keep hair away from food
Jewelry: Minimal jewelry is required to prevent contamination

Position Title: Cafeteria Volunteer

Location: Temple Christian School Cafeteria
Overview:
Temple Christian School is seeking dependable, service-minded volunteers to assist in our school cafeteria. This essential role supports the daily operations of food service by helping create a clean, safe, and efficient environment for our students and staff.
Responsibilities:
● Assist in serving breakfast and/or lunch to students and staff
● Wash and sanitize dishes, trays, and utensils
● Clean and sanitize serving areas, tables, and kitchen surfaces
● Take out trash and recyclables as needed
● Restock utensils, napkins, condiments, and drink stations
● Maintain a positive and respectful attitude while following all health and safety regulations
Volunteer Shifts:
Volunteers may serve during either or both of the following daily shifts: Morning Shift: 6:45 AM – 8:45 AM Midday Shift: 10:15 AM – 2:15 PM
Volunteer Benefit:
Volunteers who serve a minimum of 8 hours per week will receive one free student lunch per day served, including tea, for one child enrolled at Temple Christian School.

Full Time Teaching Requirements

Candidates must be a member in good standing of a Bible believing church in agreement with the doctrinal statement of Temple Christian School and lead a mature Christian life. Candidates must possess and model a personal authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
Secondary teachers must have at least a bachelor’s degree with twenty-four (24) semester hours, or appropriate certification in the subject matter being taught. (However, degreed teachers with twelve semester hours in a subject may teach if the time assigned is less than one-half the teaching load.) Teachers who meet the 24 semester hour subject requirement but do not currently hold certification must be willing to become certified. Certification can come through a private organization, as well as state. Teachers of credit bearing Bible and/or religion classes should hold a bachelors degree, but may waive the 24/12 hour subject matter requirement.
Kindergarten and elementary teachers must have a bachelor's degree with twenty-four (24) semester hours of elementary courses, such as elementary reading, language arts, music, elementary science, elementary math, elementary social studies, and elementary physical education, or appropriate certification.
